Description of financial proxy
Costs of spending on weight loss; years of life saved from being a healthy weight
Context
Research by the insurance company Engage Mutaul found that women spend on average of £485 per year on diet related products (2010) http://engagemutual.com/about-us/media-centre/all-news/2010-press-releases/cost-of-dieting/?locale=en
However, being obese at age 40 reduces life expectancy by 7.1 years for women and 5.8 years for men (US study http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12513041). It may also be possible to arrive at a proxy by putting a value on these years of life.
