WikiVOIS
Understanding value is fundamental to SROI. It includes understanding stakeholders, outcomes, indicators and values. Effective use of value requires more consistency, acceptance and use of values outcomes and indicators as a way of understanding the importance of changes to those that experience them. That's what VOIS is for - to develop a database of value, outcomes and indicators for stakeholders, encourage debate and dialogue about use of these and to encourage use. As this takes place a body of evidence will emerge of used, common, accepted values.
This body of evidence is in its infancy. There is limited content currently available here. To begin with, we must capture values, outcomes and indicators and how they are being used. As the content grows, we must discuss and improve it. These activities will be limited by resources. So to encourage the widest possible access, use and debate, and to resource capture and development, VOIS is open to all. This will mean a degree of natural disorder initially as the database is populated, and fresh content will always be visible but unapproved. But to be usable and accessible to all, particularly as the content grows, some order in the approved content will be required.
The basic structure of the database derives from the SROI process and has been defined to allow content to be captured. Guidance and help text on the use of this database is coming soon. To limit potential duplication or contradiction within the content, whilst maintaining flexibility to capture stakeholder outcomes, editing processes and protocols will be recommended. The database currently has some initial content, and the SROI Network is developing guidance and editing processes. This approach is deliberate. To develop wide use of this database we are inviting you to develop these things with us. Please contribute by adding content, discussing content and giving us your comments.
VOIS: Values, Outcomes, and Indicators for your Stakeholders!
Information on outcomes, indicators and values that you can use to help you understand and manage change can be difficult to find. There are more and more resources on the internet but these may not be appropriate for your use. They also can take time to find your way around.
Our activities create and destroy value, value that society’s main approach to determining value, prices in markets, does not always capture. The opportunity to share and communicate value is limited, not exclusively but significantly, to exchange value. One of the objectives of wikivois is to develop more commonality for values. Whilst VOIS is an abbreviation of values, outcomes, indicators and stakeholders it is also a reference to the objective of giving a voice to people who experience outcomes not recognised in prices in existing markets.
Wikivois is designed to open up availability, discussion and development of information on outcomes, indicators and values.
Submissions
Information on outcomes, indicators and values can be added by anyone anywhere through a simple form (after signing up for an account) and existing entries can be discussed and debated.
Only members of The SROI Network are able to edit existing entries.
This resource and the future
The SROI Network will be developing principles and criteria for wikivois. However we wanted to make a start by developing this resource. This means that initially we expect most of the information to be incomplete and/or unapproved. In other words there is more work required on most entries.
This is a start
There is much more to be done in order to develop this resource. This is a start. We would also like to hear from you if you have any comments on structure, useability or content so that we can improve the database.
Initial content
The initial content on VOIS Wiki was developed as part of work on the SROI Project for the Scottish Government. Information from this source has been included as WikiVOIS's initial content.
