Earnings gap for persistent truants in later life.

Description of financial proxy

Context

This financial proxy was used in an NPC study measuring the costs of exclusion and truancy, looking particularly at the work of School Home Start and The Learning Challenge.

Earnings are on average 13% lower for truants. The peak absolute difference in earnings between truants and those with no history of truancy is �894 at age 31 (2003 prices)

Relevant Information

This is based on the findings that almost 60% of children who persistently truant fail to get any A-C grade GCSEs, and that 1 in 4 children who ruant get no qualifications at all.
